SEPARATING BOOM SECTIONS
Separating one boom section from another is not difficult. However, care and attention to
detail are required. Components should be clearly identified to aid in re-assembly. Work
on the boom assembly is performed with the assembly upside-down. This is necessary
because of the depth of the fourth section nose. A crane and stanchions (horses) of
sufficient capacity must be available to lift and hold the weight of the boom assembly and
sections. The complete assembly weighs approximately 8220 lb. There must also be
adequate room for the inner boom section being removed to clear the outer boom section.
REMOVING THE CROWD CYLINDER
With the boom assembly turned upside-down, the crowd cylinder is easily removed.
Removal procedure is as follows:
Attach lifting tackle to the cylinder and take the weight to aid in pin removal.
Remove pin and snap ring.
Remove the crowd cylinder.
Remove the cylinder and store in a designated area.

SEPARATING BOOM-SECTION 2/3/4 FROM BOOM-SECTION 1
It is best to remove the boom sections in the order in which they were assembled. If a
section needs to be separated, this presents an excellent opportunity to check all sections
for serviceability. The fourth, third and second section should be removed from the first
section as a package.

Note!
If the boom sections are to be
separated and worked on
individually, rotate the boom
assembly 180°. It is best to work
on individual sections upside
down, for easy access. The nose of
boom-section 4 makes it
impractical to place it level at a
normal working height.

If there is no problem with the tilt cylinder, it may be left intact
during removal of boom-section 4. It is best to remove the tilt
cylinder before the booms are separated. See Section 9B, Carriage
Tilt Cylinder Removal/Reinstallation starting on page 9.2
